- Personal & Academic Use Only: The discount is intended for individual student projects or university-affiliated teams.
- Commercial Exclusion: We reserve the right to refuse the discount for orders that appear to be for commercial purposes, resale, or professional consulting work.
- Volume Limits: While we love a big project, exceptionally large production volumes may be excluded from the student discount. If you have a massive project in mind, get in touch with us first!
Student Discount FAQ
What file formats should I use for the best results?
For engineering and racing components, we recommend exporting your designs as STL, STEP or 3MF files. If you are working in Fusion 360 or SolidWorks, ensure your mesh resolution is set to “Fine” before exporting to ensure smooth curves on your aerodynamic or mechanical parts.
Does the discount apply to the express service or Vapour Smoothing?
Yes! Your 20% discount is comprehensive. It applies to all technologies (SLS, MJF) and all post-processing services (like Vapour Smoothing or Dyeing)
Can I get technical advice if my design isn't print-ready?
Absolutely. We’re here to help you succeed. If our automated system detects an issue with your file (like walls that are too thin for SLS Nylon), our team of engineers will often reach out with suggestions. You can also check our Technical Guides for tips on hollowing parts and optimizing for industrial machines.
How should we set up an account for a University Team (e.g., Formula Student)?
For racing and rocket teams, we recommend creating a team-specific account using a shared student email address (e.g., racing-team@uni.ac.uk). This allows multiple members to upload files while ensuring the student discount is applied consistently to all team orders.
My discount wasn’t automatically applied, what should I do?
First, double-check that you signed up with your official university email address and that you’ve clicked the link in your verification email. If the discount still isn’t appearing on your quote, please contact us at print@3dpeople.uk before placing your order. We can manually update your status so you don’t miss out on the savings.
Is there a limit to how many parts I can order?
There is no set limit on the number of unique parts, but the discount is intended for prototyping and low-volume project work. If your order moves into high-volume production (e.g., 50+ units of the same part), it may be flagged for Commercial Exclusion under our Fair Use Policy. If you’re planning a large run for a project, just get in touch and we’ll see how we can best support you.
